Our friends at Rainbow Beach Ultimate are hosting a great new beach hat tourney – QueerOut! – on Saturday June 4.
It’s a fundraiser to support LGBTQ+ issues advocacy in sport, and registration costs $10. It will be held on Venice Beach near the boardwalk, in front of the Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower. Below is their description of the event – we hope you’ll come, play, and show your support! A summer in Los Angeles means Beach Ultimate and ’tis the season of LGBTQ+ Pride. So, let’s make it queer! During Venice Pride weekend (Friday June 3 – Sunday June 5) Rainbow Beach Ultimate (RBU) is going full spectrum with its inaugural QUEEROUT! Beach Ultimate Hat Tourney on Saturday June 4, 2022, on Venice Beach at the Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower, from 10am to 4pm.
All genders and skill levels are welcome! Do you love Ultimate but do not identify as LGBTQ+? You are welcome! Are you an ally who has never seen a frisbee? You are welcome!
RBU will use proceeds and donations from QUEEROUT! to support LGBTQ+ justice advocacy efforts regarding the current national politics, namely trans athletes and trans youth participation in sports. Rainbow Beach Ultimate believes in the diversity and inclusivity of the Ultimate community and that means providing queer spaces within the Ultimate community for the growth and empowerment of all LGBTQ+ identifying players. Take action to support this cause by joining in a fun, competitive, and spirited Ultimate event with others who share RBU’s values of diversity and inclusivity.
FORMAT: Mixed gender – 4v4 – random draw hat tournament in accordance with BULA Beach Ultimate Rules, congruent with WFDF Official Rules of (grass) Ultimate.
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday June 4, 2022, on Venice Beach at the Venice Pride Flag Lifeguard Tower, from 10am to 4pm.
WE PROVIDE: rainbow-lined fields, discs, scoreboards, water, and ice. Standard tourney fare will include bananas, oranges, bagels, spreads, and bars.
YOU BRING: a white shirt AND any color shirt for teams (please no grey or ambiguously white/dark shirts), plenty of sunscreen, and sand socks (optional). We ask that you bring your own container for water.
With respect to health and safety, we are asking that you EITHER provide us with evidence of vaccination OR wear a mask. All those providing evidence of vaccination will receive a wristband when they check in. To play, you must be wearing a wristband or wearing a mask. You can upload a picture of your registration card when you register. You may alternately bring a picture of it with you and show it when you check in.
We will distribute players based on survey responses so overall team strength is as similar as possible. Players will get an email the night before telling them which team they are on.
