Announcing the LA Throwback
Ultimate Community Support Fund (UCSF)

(3/19/2019) The LA Throwback Foundation is pleased to announce its first Request For Applications (RFA) to our Ultimate Community Support Fund (UCSF). The UCSF was created to support members of our community who would like to help promote the teaching and playing of ultimate and to increase civic participation in our community.

As you probably are aware, the demographics of the ultimate community in southern California – race, gender, and economic status – are very different than the demographics of the region as a whole. The LA Throwback Foundation specifically seeks to support motivated individuals in their efforts to address persistent patterns of underrepresentation in our sport.

At this time we are able to provide initial funding of $2500 to the UCSF, from the proceeds of the 2019 LA Throwback Beach Ultimate Fest, and we look forward to raising additional funds going forward. We seek to fund proposals from individuals or small groups, in amounts ranging up to $500, for projects that will promote ultimate in areas and among groups currently under-represented in the existing ultimate community.

The purposes to which this funding may be put are broad, and up to the initiative of the applicants. Whether it be to help support your efforts to create a team where there presently is none or put on an event to encourage new folks to take up the sport, to spend time coaching, to support the travel and/or entry fees of players who need help to participate in formal competition, to pay for practice space or jerseys, or anything else that inspires and motivates you to share your knowledge and love of the game with others, we want to help.

In addition to providing financial support for qualifying proposals, we are also very pleased to be able to offer – thanks to our disc partner ARIA – ARIA ultimate discs for use as practice discs and to give to individual players who otherwise would not be able to get a personal disc (because we all know that the only way to improve is to throw often). We also seek to work with our apparel partner, Savage, to help make team gear more affordable and accessible.

In general, proposals for funding will be reviewed quarterly, but rush proposals can be considered.

To apply for funding, please fill out our Application for Support. We have attempted to make the application as straightforward and simple as possible. Please email your completed application to: info@lathrowback.org

Please note: we will publish on our website the names and project summaries of all UCSF awardees.
