Hey all,

A few weeks back we tried to start a free beach league with a format we call Clique Six, which is similar to the recently announced WFDF Ultimate 4’s format. In clique six, rosters are limited to six people (but you can add one yoda – person over 44 – of each gender to that), and you play a bunch of games to 6 in a day.

After feedback from players and teams we realized that though the Clique Six format interests folks, getting a small roster of people to commit to multiple weeks for a league isn’t easy. But we really love the idea of clique six (six people playing a number of games to six with some breaks between games so they can rest up) because it allows people to get into a real flow, and also allows for a diversity of styles to develop.

Sooooo…we’re going to do start with a one-day clique six tourney, and if it goes well we’ll hold more, perhaps in a grand prix kind of format…but basically, in forming your team you only have to get six people (plus yodas) to commit for one day.

The deets:

Again, clique six is similar to the recently announced WFDF Ultimate 4’s format.

In clique six you come with your own team of max six players from your roster (plus yodas if you want). We’ll be doing this as a mixed 4×4 format only, two women two men on the field at all times (to start…future events may include an open division). Rosters must have at least two women and at least two men. Of course, if you only have two of one gender, then those two will be on the field the whole game.

The one exception to the six person roster limit is people 44 or older (yodas). Teams will be allowed to carry one yoda of each gender on their roster. This is in the interest of combating the age-ism that can creep in to fixed roster events. Older players would be a liability in this format without that.

In Clique Six you play 4×4 games to six, one time out per team, no half, and you play a number of them, with some byes and space between games to let you regain your breath. If we get enough teams we’d love to schedule it so everyone plays six games in about four hours.

Games will start each day at 10 am and we’ll go for about four hours (maybe a bit longer depending on how many teams we get).

This will be a no-frills event…we’ll have field lines, water jugs, and some shade canopies, and that’s about it. However, there WILL be a special prize for the winning team (top secret).

We won’t be requiring masks, but you must be fully vaccinated in order to play. We highly recommend but will not require that you also be boosted.

For registration, captains should register all players except their yodas (contact us directly for adding people over 44…too hard to make that work on the registration system). In order to be accepted, players will have to upload evidence of vaccination.

And oh! One other thing…this is a free event, but each team will be asked to send one or two people to either help set up or take down the field lines they are playing on…that way we emphasize that this is the community putting this on for itself, not us doing it for you…we’re setting up the schedule and bringing the fields, but it’s the community that makes it happen. We’ll show anyone who needs to learn how to set up and breakdown the lines (it’s important to do it correctly so it’s easy the next time). It’s not rocket science, nor is it very difficult, and if we get a bunch of NTBU’ers and RBU’ers, they already know how. It takes about 15 min and two people min (four makes it really quick) to set up or break down a set of field lines the way we do it.

So, we hope you’ll join us, we hope you have fun, and if it works out, we’ll look forward to expanding. We also look forward to your feedback on how to make it better.

See you out there!
