About Tu Casa

Tu Casa refers to itself as a sanctuary rather than an albergue (which translates directly as a hostel, but is generally meant as a migrant or refugee shelter). It was founded by Quaker David Klages on land donated by a woman who had experienced domestic violence and wanted to help victims of violence. They seek as great a degree of diversity – broadly defined – in the people they serve, as part of their effort to help solve the problem of “the other”.

Tu Casa is located at the top of a steep, steep dead end street in a canyon in Tijuana, where David Klages, along with a group of primarily Central American (Honduran and Guatemalan) asylum seekers and migrants are creating a truly beautiful and functional sanctuary.

We had fun throwing from the driveway up to kids on the roof of one of the structures that are part of the sanctuary, but to really do serious throwing we had to walk down to the bottom of the street where things flattened out.

Tu Casa runs entirely on donations and has a GoFundMe page where you can go to donate to support their efforts.
