Casa Hogar Rayito de Luz

About Casa Hogar Rayito de Luz

Ser La Luz Del Mundo is a California-based Christian non-profit organization that “strives to be a beacon of light and hope to abandoned children, battered women, the poor, and the elderly South of the border with Mexico.” One of their projects is to support the foster home/orphanage Rayito de Luz, located in El Rubí, on the coast just south of Tijuana. According to Ser La Luz Del Mundo, “there are over over 300 orphanages in the Baja area alone. One of every three children have experienced physical abuse, neglect, or sexual abuse in their home before coming to an orphanage.”

We were taken to visit Rayito de Luz by Luis Guillermo Gomez Rosales and had a wonderful time with the kids there. We were able to give ARIA discs and Savage cinch bags to all, and got to go with them to a basketball court about a 15 min walk away, where we had fun throwing and doing line drills. Compared to the albergues, where the turnover can be great, the kids at Rayito de Luz are there long-term. They live there until they are adopted or until they reach majority. As a result, we look forward to getting together with them many times, and we think that at least a few may become great utlimate players. Luis visits regularly and takes the kids to throw as part of his social service work with Psicólogos Sin Fronteras BC. He also plans to bring coaches from Baja Sunset Ultimate when they can come to help out.
